The Australian Open 2022 has lost another star. 2020 finalist, Dominic Thiem, was forced to withdraw due to a wrist injury.
Thiem actually experienced the injury when competing at the Mallorca Open in June last year. Since then the 28-year-old Austrian has not yet returned to swinging a racket.
Initially, Thiem was planning to appear in the 2022 Australian Open which will start on 17 January. However, it seems that Thiem's rehabilitation process has experienced a setback so that his desire to play at Melbourne Park is not possible.

"I will start the season in South America at the Cordoba Open in Argentina at the end of January and for that I will not be playing at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

"I will miss the fans in Australia but I will be back in 2023. We believe this is the right decision to have a good comeback to play again," Thiem added, quoted by Eurosport.
Thiem has not previously played at the Australian Open since 2014. His best finish was the final in 2020 but lost to Novak Djokovic in a five-set match.
With the absence of Dominic Thiem, the 2022 Australian Open is in danger of losing star players, especially in the men's singles number.
